Although some of the most famous beaches of the island are so close, relaxing by the pool amid the smell of roses and jasmine is very tempting. Chania town, only 7 km away, is easily accessible by bus, car or taxi. By the beach in Kato Stalos (seven minutes walk down, a little longer back up the sleepish hill) there is an excellent choice of tavernas, shops and mini-markets.
